COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil and Structural Engineering BEng degree provides a structured, progressive learning pathway over three years, combining core technical knowledge with practical experience and optional modules to tailor learning. In the first year, students build a foundation in fundamental civil engineering subjects, including structural analysis, materials, water and soils, surveying, construction technology, architecture, sustainability, and engineering mathematics. Practical skills are developed through an integrated design project and a weeklong field course, giving hands-on experience with industry-standard surveying equipment and teamwork. The second year consolidates this knowledge with advanced modules in water engineering, geotechnics, structural design, and engineering mathematics, alongside integrated design projects that introduce Building Information Modelling. Students can also choose optional modules in areas such as transport planning, highway engineering, sustainable solutions, and data analysis. In the third year, students deepen their expertise in steel and concrete structures, foundation design, and water engineering while undertaking substantial research projects. The integrated design project and field-based “Constructionarium” course provide practical experience in planning, managing, and executing construction projects, simulating real-world conditions. Optional modules allow students to explore transport, public health engineering, environmental engineering, and computational methods. Across all years, the program emphasizes problem-solving, technical competence, and independent research skills, preparing graduates for professional practice in civil and structural engineering and equipping them to address complex engineering challenges in sustainable infrastructure and the built environment.
