COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil and Environmental Engineering BEng program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the principles and practices of civil and environmental engineering, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. In the first year, students study modules on architecture and sustainability, surveying, construction technology, structural analysis and design, materials, water and soils, engineering mathematics, and integrated design projects, developing foundational knowledge in the behaviour of structures, construction processes, material properties, and environmental impact. In the second year, the curriculum builds on these foundations with advanced modules in water engineering, geotechnics, structural design and materials, engineering mathematics, and sustainable engineering solutions, alongside integrated design projects that enhance skills in CAD and the engineering design process. Optional modules allow students to explore areas such as transport planning, highway engineering, and building physics. In the third year, students further develop their expertise in water engineering, geotechnics, structural design, wastewater engineering, and environmental health engineering, with a focus on global and developing world contexts. Integrated design projects and an individual research project enable students to apply knowledge to real-world engineering challenges, exploring advanced design techniques, foundation systems, numerical methods, and sustainable solutions. Throughout the course, students acquire skills in problem-solving, critical analysis, independent research, and professional practice, preparing them for careers in civil, structural, and environmental engineering.
