COURSE CURRICULUM

The Modern Languages and Economics BA is a four-year degree that integrates the study of economics with advanced language learning and cultural understanding. In the first two years, compulsory modules build essential research and academic skills, providing a foundation in both microeconomics and macroeconomics. Students also explore optional modules tailored to their interests and career plans, covering topics such as labour economics, behavioural economics, ethics, and international economics. Language learning is embedded from the start, allowing beginners to develop skills rapidly while advanced learners consolidate and broaden their proficiency. Cultural studies complement the language learning, covering areas such as literature, cinema, popular culture, history, and politics to provide a global perspective. A key feature of the course is the compulsory residence abroad in the third year, where students spend up to a year in a country where their chosen language is spoken, gaining immersion in both the language and local economic context. In the final year, students take a compulsory language module and can choose their Final Year Project in either economics or their chosen language, alongside advanced optional modules to deepen their expertise. By combining economic knowledge, cultural awareness, and professional language skills, graduates are prepared for international careers across business, policy, and research.
