COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre and Performance BA program is structured to gradually build students’ practical and theoretical expertise in performance across three years. In the first year, students engage with core theories and approaches in theatre and performance, developing foundational skills in devising, performance, and the relationship between text and performance. They are also introduced to digital performance making, allowing them to explore new modes of creative expression. In the second year, students expand their creative practice by experimenting with performance techniques and producing work for external organisations. This year emphasizes the application of research methods, encouraging students to consider the political, historical, technological, social, and cultural contexts that shape performance practice. By the final year, students gain greater independence, designing and executing self-directed projects that reflect their individual interests and professional goals. Opportunities include producing collaborative public performances, undertaking enterprise projects to gain practical business experience, or conducting focused research projects. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to combine practical experimentation with critical thinking, enabling them to develop as versatile artist-researchers. This structured progression equips graduates with the creative, analytical, and professional skills necessary to contribute effectively to the performing arts and related cultural industries, while fostering innovation, social awareness, and adaptability in diverse performance contexts.
