COURSE CURRICULUM

The Theatre and Performance with Enterprise BA combines creative practice, cultural industry knowledge, and entrepreneurship. In the first year, students develop a foundation in theatre and performance theories and approaches, exploring them through practical modes of practice. They also engage with modules on business, social enterprise, and broader aspects of the creative and cultural industries. In the second year, students continue to build their creative practice and theoretical understanding while working across diverse creative industries and enterprise contexts. They produce performances and workshops for external organisations, applying research methods and considering the political, historical, technological, social, and cultural dimensions of performance. Enterprise-focused modules cover entrepreneurship theory, practice, and organisational planning, providing practical insights into business development. In the final year, students work with greater independence, undertaking research-based projects and negotiating a major enterprise project with guidance from tutors. Optional modules allow students to specialise in areas such as directing, performance design, arts marketing, and digital culture, supporting both artistic and professional development. Throughout the course, students also participate in interdisciplinary projects offered by the Centre for Enterprise and Entrepreneurship Studies, collaborating with peers from other disciplines engaged in enterprising activities. This integrated approach equips graduates with the creative, analytical, and entrepreneurial skills needed to innovate and succeed in the cultural and performing arts sectors.
