COURSE CURRICULUM

The Philosophy, Politics and Economics BA combines three disciplines to provide students with a broad understanding of society, human behaviour, and ethical reasoning, while developing analytical, research, and problem-solving skills. In the first year, compulsory modules introduce core concepts in economic theory, comparative politics, Western political thought, philosophical methodology, and essential mathematics and statistics, equipping students with the technical and conceptual foundation needed for interdisciplinary study. Year one also includes opportunities to select optional modules across philosophy, politics, and economics, allowing students to explore diverse interests such as the history of ideas, international politics, or ethical issues. In the second year, students advance their knowledge with intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics alongside compulsory philosophy or politics modules, while optional modules provide flexibility to pursue areas including moral and political philosophy, contemporary global politics, applied economics, and quantitative methods. The final year emphasizes independent research through a substantial dissertation in one of the three disciplines, supported by supervisors, enabling students to apply their analytical, research, and writing skills. Additional optional modules allow students to further specialise or explore interdisciplinary topics, such as feminist philosophy, international economics, environmental and behavioural economics, human rights, and global political issues. This combination ensures graduates gain a comprehensive, versatile skill set suitable for careers in policy, research, governance, and business.
