COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Music with Enterprise at Leeds combines the study of music with enterprise and entrepreneurship, offering a unique interdisciplinary approach across three years. In the first year, compulsory modules introduce students to the music industries, music and society, materials of music, social enterprises, and enterprise and entrepreneurship. These modules develop understanding of the global music business, musical practice in historical and contemporary contexts, and the fundamentals of creative and social enterprise. Optional music modules allow students to pursue areas such as collaborative performance, contemporary composition, film music, music psychology, music technology, performance, and popular music. In the second year, students deepen their research and professional skills through modules in researching music, skills in context, entrepreneurship in theory and practice, leading and managing small business, and new enterprise planning, combining theoretical understanding with applied practice. Year three focuses on independent and enterprise projects, giving students the opportunity to explore their own musical research or practical work alongside developing and delivering solutions to identified entrepreneurial challenges in the creative and cultural industries. Optional modules throughout the course provide further opportunities to specialise in areas of music, ensuring a flexible and personalised degree pathway. The program equips students with creative, critical, and transferable skills, preparing them for careers that combine musical expertise with entrepreneurial thinking.
