COURSE CURRICULUM

The Linguistics and Philosophy BA provides an integrated study of language and philosophy, combining scientific and analytical approaches to explore human communication and thought. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in language structure, phonetics, syntax, and the social use of language, while also building core philosophical reasoning skills. Optional modules allow students to explore moral and political philosophy, epistemology, metaphysics, and language variation across the world, fostering both analytical and research skills. In the second year, students deepen their understanding of phonetics, syntactic theory, and language analysis, alongside optional modules in psycholinguistics, language evolution, interactional linguistics, and intermediate topics in moral, political, and epistemological philosophy. These modules encourage critical thinking, empirical research, and practical application of concepts. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation in either linguistics or philosophy, applying research skills to a topic of their choice. Optional modules in the third year allow exploration of bilingualism and multilingual practices, sociophonetics, language and gender, philosophy of language, aesthetics, and feminist philosophy, emphasizing interdisciplinary analysis and advanced conceptual understanding. Throughout the course, students develop transferable skills in research, communication, argumentation, and critical thinking, preparing them for careers or further study in linguistics, philosophy, education, communication, or other fields requiring rigorous analytical abilities and interdisciplinary insight.
