COURSE CURRICULUM

The Geography with Transport Studies BA at Leeds explores the interactions between transport systems, society, and urban environments, focusing on how mobility affects quality of life and contributes to social, economic, and environmental challenges. In the first year, students gain foundational knowledge in human and physical geography, transport systems, urbanisation, environmental change, and transport policy. Core modules develop skills in digital data analysis, research methods, and understanding social, spatial, and political factors that influence mobility and accessibility. Optional modules allow further exploration of global geopolitics, population dynamics, and environmental change, while a pathway in Quantitative Research Methods offers advanced analytical skills for spatial and statistical problem-solving. The second year builds on this foundation with core modules in human geography research, GIS, spatial data analysis, and career development, alongside transport-focused modules covering social sustainability, travel behaviour, and the interaction of people, place, and transport systems. Students also select optional modules in transport economics, land use, energy, and project appraisal. In the final year, students complete an independent human geography dissertation, often focused on transport, alongside a selection of optional modules covering public transport, freight logistics, urban social movements, and global insecurities. Opportunities for work, research, or teaching placements, and physical geography modules, further enrich learning. Graduates gain strong analytical, research, and problem-solving skills applicable to careers in transport planning, policy, consultancy, and urban management.
