COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA Education course provides a comprehensive exploration of education, combining theory, research, and practical experience to prepare students for a variety of educational contexts. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Becoming a Practitioner of Learning, Diverse Contexts of Learning, and Psychological Approaches to Child Development and Education, which focus on understanding learning processes, child development, and critical thinking. Contemporary Issues and Debates in Education and The Practice of Educating introduce the challenges faced by schools and educational systems and provide opportunities for practical application through micro-teaching and experiential learning. In the second year, students build on these foundations with modules in Research Methods, International Perspectives of Pedagogy and Practice, and Inclusive Education, developing skills in research, curriculum analysis, and understanding diverse learner needs. Optional modules and discovery modules allow students to explore specific interests, from STEM education to experiential learning. In the final year, the focus shifts to advanced study through the Final Year Research Project and Educational Futures: Challenges and Possibilities, where students investigate contemporary issues such as decolonising the curriculum, climate change, and emerging technologies, linking theory with practice. Further optional modules and placements offer hands-on experience and opportunities to specialise, equipping graduates with the knowledge and skills for careers in teaching, policy, research, and broader educational roles.
