COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Politics BA is an interdisciplinary program that combines the study of political systems and theories with economic analysis, equipping students with skills in research, data analysis, and critical thinking. In the first year, students develop a foundation in microeconomics and macroeconomics, mathematical and statistical tools, and economic applications, alongside political theory, comparative politics, and the study of global challenges. The curriculum introduces students to methods of independent research, encouraging engagement with key debates in politics and international studies. In the second year, students build on this knowledge through intermediate economics modules, research methods, and a choice of political modules covering topics such as international relations theory, development challenges, regional politics, and security issues. Optional modules enable students to tailor their studies toward areas of interest, such as US politics, the EU, environmental politics, or political economy. In the final year, students complete a dissertation in either economics or politics, applying their research and analytical skills to a substantial project. Additional optional modules allow for deeper exploration of advanced economic topics, including development economics, behavioural economics, applied econometrics, macroeconomic policy, international economics, and monetary theory, as well as political issues such as climate change, global security, extremism, foreign policy, and radical political ideas. The program prepares graduates for careers in policy, international organisations, government, research, and economics-related fields.
