COURSE CURRICULUM

The Economics and Geography BA provides a comprehensive understanding of both disciplines, equipping students with the analytical, research, and practical skills needed to tackle contemporary global challenges. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in human geography, economic theory, and global economic history, while gaining skills in statistical analysis, academic writing, and digital learning. Core modules explore the economic and social importance of cities, urban processes, and individual and firm-level economic decision-making, alongside optional modules that allow students to investigate environmental crises, migration, population change, and digital geographies. In the second year, the focus expands to research methods in human geography and intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics, complemented by optional modules covering topics such as sustainability, international economics, social and spatial data analysis, and health economics. Fieldwork experiences, including residential and urban ecology courses, provide hands-on learning and practical application of theory. In the final year, students undertake an independent research project or dissertation in either economics or human geography, applying advanced research skills and methodologies. A wide range of optional modules allows further specialization, from urban social movements and population health to applied economics, trade, and environmental economics. Graduates leave with strong interdisciplinary knowledge, research experience, and skills applicable to careers in policy, planning, environmental management, and economic analysis.
