COURSE CURRICULUM

The Digital Media BA at the University of Leeds offers a structured progression through three years, combining core learning with opportunities to explore individual interests through optional modules. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in digital media, communication theory, research methods, interface design, and practical design for digital media, while optional modules allow exploration of areas such as the history of communication, cinema, and camera and editing skills. The second year builds on these foundations, with compulsory modules covering programming for digital media, working in teams, communication research methods, visual communication, and sensory aspects of digital media, complemented by optional modules such as digital storytelling, podcasting, motion graphics, technology in communications, and digital cultures. In the final year, students focus on digital governance and complete a substantial final year project, either a practical digital media project or a communication dissertation, allowing them to consolidate and apply their learning. Optional modules in the third year provide opportunities to explore international communication, documentary and reality media, feminist perspectives, audience studies, or undertake a placement for professional experience. Across all years, the program emphasizes practical skills, critical analysis, creative problem solving, and industry relevance, preparing graduates for a wide range of careers in digital media, communications, and related creative and technical industries.
