COURSE CURRICULUM

The Classical Literature and English BA offers a comprehensive exploration of literature from the ancient world to the modern era, integrating classical texts with English literary traditions. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules on Greek and Roman poets, literary analysis, and writing skills, while optional modules allow engagement with topics such as drama, poetry, modern fiction, and classical languages. Year one also includes practical training in critical thinking, close reading, and structured writing, equipping students with the skills needed for independent study and professional communication. In the second year, the program builds on these foundations through modules that foster independent research, examine literature in relation to culture and the environment, and explore embodiment and representation in texts. Optional modules allow further study of classical literature, ancient history, Dante, and English literary periods, enabling students to tailor their learning to specific interests. In the final year, students complete a major research project, conducting in-depth investigation into a topic of their choice under academic supervision. Optional modules in year three offer extensive opportunities to explore classical and English literature in greater depth, including ancient history, reception studies, Greek and Latin language, and major periods of English literature from the Renaissance to postcolonial studies. The degree combines rigorous research, critical analysis, and practical literary skills, preparing students for academic or professional paths in literary studies, writing, research, and related fields.
