COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Artificial Intelligence and Data Science curriculum is designed to provide a structured and comprehensive pathway from foundational skills to advanced research and real-world application. The program begins by developing core programming competence in Python, enabling students to confidently progress into more advanced AI and data science topics. It introduces the fundamental concepts of artificial intelligence, including machine learning approaches such as classification, regression, clustering, and neural networks, while also examining ethical, legal, and societal implications. Alongside this, students gain a strong grounding in data science principles, covering data types, data management, statistical analysis, visualisation, and practical applications using real-world datasets. Building on these foundations, the course explores big data and data mining techniques, including databases, network analysis, time series modelling, web scraping, and clustering methods, with attention to legal and ethical considerations. Applied Artificial Intelligence deepens technical understanding through advanced models and practical problem-solving, while encouraging reflection on bias, equality, and responsible AI use. The program also emphasises research skills through modules that link AI and data science to real-world contexts such as healthcare, sustainability, and creative industries. This prepares students for an independent research project and dissertation, where they design, implement, and evaluate solutions to complex, real-world challenges, developing analytical, technical, and professional expertise for the job market.
