COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Social Work is structured over two years to provide students with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience needed to become effective social work practitioners. In the first year, students focus on foundational aspects of the profession, including assessment and care planning, applied law, and readiness for practice. They develop a strong understanding of social work knowledge and interventions, exploring approaches such as Think Family and strength-based methods that promote holistic support for individuals and families. This theoretical learning is complemented by the first practice placement, giving students hands-on experience in real-world social work settings and allowing them to apply their developing skills in a professional environment. In the second year, students build on this foundation through the final practice placement, which provides further immersive experience and helps to consolidate professional competencies. Alongside practical learning, students focus on developing leadership skills and understanding statutory social work methods and approaches, preparing them to navigate complex organisational and legal contexts in their future careers. The course combines academic rigor with practical application, ensuring graduates are equipped to work confidently and competently as registered social workers, capable of making a positive impact on individuals, families, and communities across a variety of settings.
