COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing (Pre-Registration) Child MSc is structured over two years, combining theoretical study with extensive clinical practice to develop highly competent child nurses. In the first year, students focus on foundational knowledge and professional development. Modules such as Becoming a Professional – Child Nursing and Introduction to Child Nursing introduce the core principles of child nursing and the professional standards required. Developing Critical Knowledge and Skills in Child Nursing and Understanding Knowledge and Evidence for Nursing equip students with analytical, clinical, and evidence-based practice capabilities, while Developing Research Knowledge and Evidence for Child Nursing Practice provides essential research skills to support effective decision-making. Nursing Practice 1 allows students to apply theory in practical settings, gaining experience in caring for children, young people, and families across diverse clinical environments. In the second year, the program emphasises advanced professional development and clinical expertise. Modules including Developing as a Professional, Being a Professional, and Enhancing Knowledge and Skills in Child Nursing consolidate clinical competence and reflective practice. Nursing Practice 2 and 3 provide further structured clinical experience, enabling students to manage complex care confidently. Using Evidence and Research to Enhance Child Nursing Practice ensures graduates can integrate research into practice to improve outcomes. Overall, the program prepares students to meet NMC standards, delivering skilled, compassionate, and professional child nurses ready for practice in varied healthcare settings.
