COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacology with Research Placement BSc(Hons) degree is structured to provide a thorough grounding in biological, chemical, and pharmaceutical sciences while integrating practical research experience. In the first year, students study molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, human physiology, research skills, medical pharmacology, and an introduction to pharmaceutical chemistry, establishing a strong foundation in the principles underlying drug action and human biology. The second year builds on this knowledge with more advanced modules in cell biology, biochemistry, physiology focused on control and integration, research skills, and pharmaceutics and formulation, linking scientific theory with practical applications in drug development. The third year is dedicated to a supervised research experience, allowing students to gain hands-on training in a real-world laboratory or research environment, either in the UK or abroad, applying their skills to projects relevant to pharmacology and pharmaceutical science. In the final year, students undertake an independent research project alongside advanced modules in medical pharmacology and pharmaceutical formulation and drug analysis, enabling them to explore a specialized area of interest in depth. Overall, the program combines rigorous academic study, practical laboratory training, and structured research experience, equipping graduates with the knowledge, skills, and professional experience needed for careers in pharmacology, pharmaceutical industries, healthcare, or further postgraduate study, while fostering critical thinking, analytical ability, and problem-solving skills.
