COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Genetics with Research Placement BSc(Hons) program is structured to provide a thorough understanding of genetics and its applications in medical and biological sciences, combined with practical research experience. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, alongside essential research skills and exposure to analytical science and spectroscopy. The curriculum also introduces microbiology, giving insight into the role of microbes in health and disease. In the second year, students build on this foundation with advanced modules in molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, while further developing research capabilities and preparing for independent scientific investigation. The third year emphasizes applied learning and research-based study, including a substantial research project that allows students to gain hands-on laboratory experience and contribute to active scientific investigations. Additional modules cover medical genetics, immunology and infection, mechanisms and pathology of cancer and other chronic diseases, and current topics in molecular life sciences, offering a broad understanding of genetic and clinical applications. Throughout the program, students refine critical thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills while integrating theoretical knowledge with practical expertise. By the end of the course, graduates are well-prepared for careers in medical research, genetics, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, or further postgraduate study, equipped with both scientific knowledge and practical research experience.
