COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Biochemistry with Research Placement BSc(Hons) program provides a thorough exploration of the molecular and biochemical processes underlying human health and disease, combined with opportunities for practical research experience. In the first year, students build a foundation in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, while developing essential analytical and research skills through modules in spectroscopy, analytical science, and the chemistry of carbon compounds. This year establishes the scientific and practical basis for advanced study. In the second year, students expand their knowledge in molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, with continued focus on research skills, enabling them to understand complex biological systems and prepare for independent investigation. The third year emphasizes applied and research-based learning, including a substantial research project that allows students to gain hands-on laboratory experience and contribute to scientific studies. Additional modules cover immunology and infection, mechanisms and pathology of cancer and other chronic diseases, practical skills in clinical pathology and biochemistry, and current topics in molecular life sciences. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills while applying theoretical knowledge in practical contexts. By the end of the degree, graduates are well-prepared for careers in medical research, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and biotechnology, as well as for further postgraduate study, equipped with both scientific expertise and professional research experience.
