COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedicine with Research Placement BSc(Hons) program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of human biology and disease, combining theoretical study with practical, hands-on experience. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as research skills, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, physiology, medical pharmacology, and microbiology, which establish the core scientific principles needed for advanced study. The second year builds on this foundation, covering molecular biology, cell biology, advanced physiology, infectious diseases, therapeutics, and further research skills, allowing students to understand complex biological systems and disease mechanisms. In the third year, students undertake a supervised research experience, giving them the opportunity to apply their knowledge in a real-world laboratory or clinical environment, enhancing practical skills, problem-solving abilities, and scientific communication. The fourth and final year focuses on independent research and advanced biomedical topics, including medical genetics, immunology and infection, mechanisms and pathology of cancer and other chronic diseases, and a research project. This year consolidates students’ learning, preparing them to undertake professional scientific work or pursue further study. Graduates leave the program with a strong combination of theoretical understanding, practical laboratory experience, and research expertise, ready for careers in biomedical research, clinical analysis, pharmaceuticals, or advanced postgraduate study.
