COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biochemistry with Research Placement BSc(Hons) program provides a comprehensive study of the molecular and chemical processes that underpin life, integrating practical laboratory experience with theoretical knowledge. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology, physiology, and analytical science, while developing essential research skills and learning about the reactivity and properties of carbon compounds. The second year expands on this knowledge with advanced modules in molecular biology, biochemistry, and molecular analysis using instrumental methods, alongside continued research training to enhance students’ experimental design, data collection, and analytical capabilities. In the final year, students undertake a substantial research project that allows them to apply their learning to real-world problems, developing independent research skills, critical thinking, and scientific communication. They also explore current topics in molecular life sciences, gaining awareness of contemporary developments and challenges in biochemistry and related fields. Across all three years, the program emphasizes practical laboratory skills, problem-solving, and evidence-based analysis, equipping students to conduct high-quality scientific research. Graduates leave prepared for careers in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, healthcare, and research, or for further study in biochemistry, molecular biology, and other life science disciplines, with experience in both theory and applied scientific practice.
