COURSE CURRICULUM

The Software Engineering with Foundation Year BSc (Hons) program is structured to gradually build knowledge and skills over four years, starting with a foundation year and progressing to advanced topics. In the Foundation Year, students develop essential academic and technical skills through modules such as Communication and Research, Foundation Mathematics, Foundations of Computer Science, and Computational Thinking, preparing them for degree-level study. In Year 1, the focus shifts to core computing principles, including Computing Science and Mathematics, Computer Organisation and Architecture, and Computer Network Fundamentals, alongside practical experience in Project 1 and programming modules covering both procedural and object-oriented approaches. In Year 2, students deepen their understanding through collaborative and technical modules such as Team Project, Relational Databases and Web Integration, Object-Oriented Systems Development, Algorithms and Data Structures, and an Introduction to Artificial Intelligence. By Year 3, the course emphasizes advanced and professional-level skills, with modules including Large-Scale Software Engineering, Distributed and Client Server Systems, and an Individual Project that allows students to apply their learning to a substantial piece of work. Overall, the program provides a balanced mix of theory, practical experience, and teamwork, preparing graduates for careers in the software industry.
