COURSE CURRICULUM

The Speech and Language Therapy BSc (Hons) course is structured over three years to progressively develop clinical knowledge, practical skills, and research abilities. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation in key areas such as biomedical sciences, linguistics, phonetics, and the basics of speech and language therapy practice. Modules also introduce clinical management concepts and support early professional and research development. In Year 2, the focus shifts to applying knowledge in more complex and practical contexts, with modules covering eating, drinking and swallowing difficulties, as well as speech, language and communication needs in children and young people and individuals with acquired conditions. Students also enhance their analytical skills and continue developing their practice and research capabilities. In Year 3, students advance to a professional level, refining their clinical expertise through modules such as Mastering Speech and Language Therapy Practice and Clinical Management in Speech and Language Therapy. They explore specialised areas including intellectual and neurodevelopmental conditions and further develop their professional and personal skills. Research remains a key component throughout, culminating in advanced study in the final year. Overall, the course provides a comprehensive blend of theory, clinical practice, and research, preparing students for a career as qualified speech and language therapists.
