COURSE CURRICULUM

The Podiatry BSc(Hons) degree is structured to provide students with a progressive understanding of the science, clinical practice, and professional skills needed to work as a podiatrist. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge through modules in clinical podiatry, lower limb structure and function, medicine, podiatric theory, and professional development and research. This year establishes the core understanding of anatomy, physiology, and the theoretical principles underpinning podiatric practice. The second year expands on these foundations, focusing on more advanced clinical podiatry, introduction to musculoskeletal podiatry, medicine, and research methods. Students gain practical experience and begin to apply theoretical knowledge in clinical contexts, developing essential diagnostic and treatment skills. In the third year, the curriculum emphasizes advanced clinical practice, including working with high-risk patients, principles of contemporary podiatric practice, and applied research. Students refine their clinical reasoning, professional judgement, and patient care abilities, preparing them for independent practice. Throughout the course, there is a strong focus on integrating scientific understanding with practical skills, evidence-based practice, and professional development. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with the clinical expertise, research knowledge, and professional competence required to register with the Health and Care Professions Council and work safely and effectively as qualified podiatrists in diverse healthcare settings.
