COURSE CURRICULUM

The Pharmacology BSc(Hons) degree is structured to provide a strong foundation in the biological and chemical sciences while progressively developing specialized knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students study molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and human physiology, alongside research skills, medical pharmacology, and an introduction to pharmaceutical chemistry. This combination gives students a broad understanding of the scientific principles underlying drug action and human biology. In the second year, the course builds on this foundation with more advanced topics, including cell biology, biochemistry, and physiology focused on control and integration, as well as continued development of research skills. Students also explore pharmaceutics and drug formulation, linking chemical and biological knowledge to practical pharmaceutical applications. The third year emphasizes independent research and specialized study, with students completing a research project that allows them to investigate an area of personal or professional interest in depth. Additional modules include advanced medical pharmacology and pharmaceutical formulation and drug analysis, equipping students with the knowledge and laboratory skills needed to understand drug development, testing, and delivery. Overall, the degree combines theoretical study, practical laboratory experience, and research-focused learning, preparing graduates for careers in pharmacology, pharmaceutical science, healthcare, or further postgraduate study, while fostering critical thinking and analytical capabilities essential to the field.
