COURSE CURRICULUM

The Nursing (Mental Health) BSc(Hons) program is designed to prepare students for a professional career in mental health nursing, combining theoretical knowledge with extensive practical experience. In the first year, students focus on becoming a professional mental health nurse, gaining an introduction to mental health nursing, and developing essential clinical skills through Nursing Practice 1 and 2. Modules on understanding knowledge and evidence for nursing support the development of critical thinking, ethical awareness, and evidence-based practice. The second year builds on this foundation, emphasising professional growth and advanced clinical skills. Students engage in Nursing Practice 3 and 4 while exploring critical knowledge and research methods in mental health nursing, equipping them to apply evidence-informed approaches to care. Personal and professional development is central, preparing students for leadership responsibilities within mental health settings. In the third year, the program consolidates learning and prepares students for independent professional practice. Modules include being a professional, enhancing knowledge and skills in mental health nursing, and using evidence and research to improve care, complemented by Nursing Practice 5 and 6. Throughout the program, students gain practical experience across diverse clinical environments, integrating theoretical knowledge with hands-on practice. Graduates leave equipped with the skills, confidence, and professional competence to deliver compassionate, effective, and patient-centered mental health care across a variety of healthcare settings.
