COURSE CURRICULUM

The Medical Genetics BSc(Hons) program is structured to provide a comprehensive understanding of genetics and its role in human health and disease. In the first year, students build a foundation in molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, while developing essential research skills and gaining exposure to analytical science and spectroscopy. This year also introduces microbiology, helping students understand the role of microbes in health and disease. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through advanced modules in molecular biology, biochemistry, and physiology, with continued development of research skills, preparing them to analyse complex biological systems and genetic mechanisms. The third year focuses on applied and research-based learning, including a substantial research project that allows students to develop practical laboratory expertise and scientific investigation skills. Additional modules cover medical genetics, immunology and infection, mechanisms and pathology of cancer and other chronic diseases, and current topics in molecular life sciences, providing a broad perspective on genetic research and its clinical applications. Throughout the program, students gain critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills while integrating theoretical knowledge with practical experience. By the end of the course, graduates are equipped for careers in medical research, clinical genetics, biotechnology, and healthcare, or for further postgraduate study, with a strong understanding of genetics and its applications in modern medicine.
