COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured to develop students’ understanding of early childhood education and care through a combination of theory, practice, and professional development. In the first year, students explore key theories and strategies for learning, alongside perspectives on child development and contemporary childhoods. They also begin their professional practice, gaining initial experience and insight into working with children. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialised and practical topics, including safeguarding children and young people, developing language and communication skills for learning, and understanding autism, neurodiversity, and inclusion. Continued professional practice allows students to build confidence and apply their knowledge in real-world settings. In the final year, students focus on developing their independent thinking and research skills, including exploring how to support children and young people in expressing their voices and experiences. They also prepare for and complete a final year project, allowing them to investigate a specific area of interest in depth. Overall, the course combines academic knowledge with practical experience, helping students develop the skills, confidence, and understanding needed to support children’s learning, development, and well-being in a variety of professional settings.
