COURSE CURRICULUM

The program is structured to develop students’ understanding of crime and forensic investigation through a combination of theoretical knowledge and practical skills. In the first year, students are introduced to key concepts in criminology and criminal justice, alongside broader social science perspectives. They also study policing fundamentals and learn how forensic data is analysed, building a foundation for understanding how crime is investigated. In the second year, the focus shifts to more applied and analytical topics, including evidence-based policing, crime analysis, and social research methods. Students also explore career pathways and gain practical insight into the journey of forensic evidence from the crime scene to the laboratory, enhancing their understanding of real-world investigative processes. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics such as serious crime investigation, forensic science and its role within the legal system, and contemporary challenges facing policing. A final year project allows students to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice, demonstrating their analytical and research abilities. Overall, the course provides a balanced mix of criminology and forensic science, preparing students for careers in law enforcement, forensic investigation, criminal justice, and related professional fields.
