COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemistry with Forensic Science BSc(Hons) degree is structured to combine a strong foundation in chemistry with practical forensic applications across three years of study. In the first year, students are introduced to core chemical principles, including atomic and molecular structure, organic chemistry, and physical chemistry topics such as states of matter, kinetics, and thermodynamics. Alongside this, they begin exploring forensic science through practical modules and develop essential data handling skills specific to forensic contexts. In the second year, the course advances both chemical and forensic knowledge, with modules covering organic synthesis, molecular analysis, inorganic materials, and physical chemistry, while also focusing on practical forensic science and crime scene investigation techniques. These modules help students understand how scientific methods are applied in real forensic scenarios. In the final year, students undertake a research project, allowing them to investigate a topic in depth and develop independent research skills. Additional modules in advanced chemistry practical work, modern synthesis, and surface science provide further specialization and technical expertise. Throughout the course, students build strong analytical, observational, and problem-solving skills, preparing them for careers in forensic science, analytical laboratories, or further study in chemistry or forensic-related disciplines, with a clear understanding of how science supports criminal investigations and the legal system.
