COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedicine BSc(Hons) course provides a comprehensive understanding of the biology of human disease, combining theoretical knowledge with practical laboratory skills to prepare students for careers in biomedical research, healthcare, and pharmaceuticals. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules in research methods, molecular and cellular biology, biochemistry, physiology, medical pharmacology, and microbiology, building a solid understanding of the mechanisms that underpin human health and disease. The second year deepens this knowledge with advanced study in molecular biology, cell biology, physiology, infectious diseases, and therapeutics, while continuing to develop research skills to apply scientific methods and critical analysis effectively. In the final year, students undertake an independent research project and explore specialized topics such as medical genetics, immunology, infection, and the mechanisms and pathology of cancer and other chronic diseases. This combination of practical experience, laboratory work, and theoretical study equips students with the technical competence and analytical abilities required to investigate complex biomedical challenges. Graduates of the course gain the expertise needed to pursue careers in clinical research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development, or healthcare, as well as the academic foundation to undertake postgraduate study or professional specialization in areas such as molecular medicine, genetic research, or clinical science, contributing to the advancement of human health.
