COURSE CURRICULUM

The Songwriting, Performance and Music Production BMus (Hons) course is structured over three years to develop creative, technical, and professional skills in music. In Year 1, students build a strong foundation through modules such as Desktop Music Production 1, Songwriting 1, and Performance Skills 1, alongside Studio Engineering and Mixing Essentials and Understanding Music, which introduce key concepts in production, performance, and music theory. Music, Culture and Society also provides context on how music relates to broader social and cultural influences. In Year 2, students expand their skills and industry awareness through modules like Inside the Music Business, Songwriting 2, and Desktop Music Production 2, while continuing to develop their performance abilities in Performance Skills 2. They also gain deeper technical knowledge through Studio Production and Production Analysis. By Year 3, students focus on professional preparation and independent creative work, undertaking a Final Year Project and Composition Project, while enhancing their performance in Performance Skills 3. Modules such as Music Industry and Professional Skills and Advanced Projects in Musical Cultures help students refine their career direction and creative identity. Overall, the course offers a balanced blend of performance, production, and industry knowledge, preparing students for careers in music.
