COURSE CURRICULUM

The Popular Music Performance BMus(Hons) degree is structured to develop students’ musical skills, industry knowledge, and professional confidence over three years. In the first year, students establish a strong foundation through modules on music, culture, and society, understanding music, performance skills, songwriting, music technology, and specialist performance. This year emphasizes both technical development and creative exploration, allowing students to build their musical identity and gain practical experience. The second year focuses on advancing performance abilities, songwriting, and solo work, while also introducing students to the music business and projects in musical cultures. Extended performance modules provide additional rehearsal and practice time, supporting the refinement of technical skills and stage presence. Students continue to collaborate with peers, gaining real-world experience and developing versatility as performers. In the final year, the emphasis is on professional preparation, with modules covering the music industry, professional skills, and advanced performance, alongside a final year project that allows students to showcase their individual artistic vision.
