COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music BMus(Hons) program is structured to provide a broad and flexible education in music, combining theoretical knowledge, practical skills, and professional development. In the first year, students build a foundation through modules in music, culture, and society, understanding music, performance skills, composition, technology for musicians, and specialist performance. This year focuses on developing core skills in performance and composition while introducing students to the cultural and theoretical aspects of music. The second year expands students’ knowledge and practical abilities with advanced performance skills, projects exploring different musical cultures, and insights into the music business, providing an understanding of industry practices and professional contexts. Students begin to apply their skills in real-world and collaborative projects, preparing for more independent work. The third year emphasizes independent and advanced study, including an independent project, advanced projects in musical cultures, and continued development of performance skills. Additionally, students focus on professional preparation through modules in the music industry and professional skills, ensuring they are ready to engage with the wider music sector. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to explore different styles and genres, refine their creative and technical abilities, and develop both academic and practical expertise. Graduates are well-prepared for careers in performance, composition, music research, music education, and related professional opportunities.
