COURSE CURRICULUM

The Music Technology and Composition BMus(Hons) program is designed to develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills in both acoustic and digital music contexts. In the first year, students establish a foundation through modules in music, culture and society, composition, understanding music, desktop music production, studio engineering and mixing, and songwriting. This year focuses on building essential creative, technical, and analytical skills while introducing students to a range of musical practices. The second year expands on these skills, with advanced modules in desktop music production, composition, sonic arts and electronica, music for the moving image, songwriting, and an introduction to the music business. Students gain practical experience in applying production techniques and creative approaches to real-world contexts, preparing them for professional music work. In the third year, the program emphasizes independent and advanced projects, including a final year project, a composition project, composing music for film and video games, advanced music production and mastering, and modules in music industry and professional skills. Throughout the course, students develop a portfolio of creative work while refining technical expertise, artistic expression, and professional understanding. By graduation, they are prepared for careers in composition, sound design, music production, audio engineering, media scoring, and performance technology, or for further postgraduate study in creative and technical music disciplines.
