COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering with Foundation Year BEng(Hons) course provides a structured pathway for students to progress from foundational studies to an accredited engineering degree. The foundation year introduces core skills in communication, research, mathematics, and the principles of engineering, ensuring students develop a solid base for undergraduate study. Following this, Year 1 focuses on engineering computational skills, professional awareness, engineering science, electronic system fundamentals, design, manufacturing, testing, materials, and mechanics, equipping students with essential technical knowledge. Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules in dynamic systems, materials analysis, engineering design, thermofluids, electrical energy conversion, and manufacturing and production systems, combining theoretical understanding with practical application. In the final year, students engage with advanced topics such as dynamic analysis and control, design analysis, eco-design and intellectual property rights, and complete a substantial final year project, consolidating their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities. The course emphasizes project-based learning, teamwork, and real-world applications, preparing students for careers as mechanical engineers, design engineers, project engineers, and related roles.
