COURSE CURRICULUM

The Mechanical Engineering BEng(Hons) course provides a comprehensive foundation in engineering principles, combining theoretical knowledge with practical application to prepare students for diverse careers in industry. In the first year, students develop essential skills in computational engineering, professional research, engineering science, electronic systems, materials, mechanics, and design, manufacture, and testing, laying the groundwork for technical competence and problem-solving abilities. The second year builds on this foundation, introducing dynamic systems, material analysis, thermofluids, electrical energy conversion, engineering design, and manufacturing and production systems, giving students a deeper understanding of how engineering concepts integrate in real-world applications. The third year focuses on advanced topics including dynamic analysis and control, design analysis, eco-design, intellectual property rights, and a substantial final-year project, allowing students to demonstrate their creativity, analytical thinking, and practical engineering skills through independent research and design work. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience in state-of-the-art laboratories and workshops, developing technical proficiency and confidence in applying engineering principles. Accredited by the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, the program equips graduates with the professional qualifications, practical expertise, and transferable skills necessary to pursue roles such as mechanical engineer, design engineer, project engineer, or service engineer, while contributing to sustainable, innovative solutions in the engineering sector.
