COURSE CURRICULUM

The Civil Engineering BEng(Hons) degree is structured to develop core engineering knowledge and practical skills across three years of study. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in engineering principles through modules such as engineering science, materials and mechanics, and electronic systems, alongside developing computational, research, and professional skills. They also gain hands-on experience in design, manufacture, and testing, preparing them for more advanced study. In the second year, the focus shifts to civil engineering specialisms, including hydraulics, construction materials, soil mechanics, engineering geology, geotechnics, surveying, and both structural analysis and design. These modules provide a deeper understanding of how infrastructure is planned, designed, and constructed in real-world environments. In the final year, students explore advanced and applied topics such as sustainable infrastructure engineering, construction project management, digital engineering, geotechnical engineering, and numerical methods. They also complete a final year project, allowing them to apply their knowledge to a complex engineering problem and develop independent research and problem-solving skills. Throughout the course, students gain a balance of theoretical understanding and practical application, equipping them with the technical expertise and professional skills needed for careers in civil engineering and related industries, with a strong emphasis on sustainability and modern engineering practices.
