COURSE CURRICULUM

The Chemical Engineering BEng(Hons) degree provides a structured curriculum that develops both theoretical knowledge and practical skills across three years. In the first year, students are introduced to the core principles of chemical engineering and underlying chemistry, studying topics such as the reactivity and properties of carbon compounds, states of matter, kinetics and thermodynamics, heat transfer, and fluid flow. They also engage in chemical engineering design, laboratory work with a focus on sustainability, and mathematics, supported by tutorials and workshops to strengthen understanding. In the second year, students build on this foundation with more advanced topics, including physical chemistry, transport processes, unit operations, chemical and biochemical reaction engineering, and multiphase systems, alongside further design work that develops problem-solving and analytical skills. The final year focuses on applying knowledge to real-world engineering challenges through design projects, where students work on complex process designs. Additional modules in safety engineering, process control, advanced mass transfer, and reaction engineering enhance their technical expertise, while sustainable industrial systems emphasize environmentally responsible practices. Overall, the course equips students with the knowledge, practical experience, and professional skills needed to design and manage chemical processes, preparing them for careers in industries such as energy, manufacturing, and environmental engineering.
