COURSE CURRICULUM

The Photography BA(Hons) degree is structured to develop students’ technical skills, creative approaches, and critical understanding of the medium over three years. In the first year, students are introduced to fundamental techniques of photography, experimental practices, and the process of deconstructing and analyzing images, alongside the study of critical languages to contextualize their work within historical and contemporary frameworks. This foundation encourages experimentation, technical proficiency, and the development of a personal creative perspective. The second year expands on these skills through collaborative photographic projects, exploration of moving images and time-based media, and the study of narrative, editing, and sequencing. Students also engage with ecologies of practice and advanced critical frameworks, fostering an understanding of how photography operates within social, cultural, and professional contexts. In the final year, the focus shifts toward independent work, with students undertaking advanced research strategies, applying critical analysis to their practice, and developing a personal practice portfolio. This culmination allows students to refine their creative voice, demonstrate technical mastery, and present a cohesive body of work. Across all three years, the program balances practical experimentation, conceptual development, and critical engagement, equipping graduates with the confidence, technical expertise, and analytical skills necessary to succeed in diverse photographic and creative industry careers.
