COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Film Studies BA(Hons) curriculum is designed to develop both practical skills and critical understanding across a variety of media platforms. In the first year, students build foundational knowledge in professional writing, critical thinking, online content production, audio and video production, and explore the media’s roles, rights, and responsibilities, gaining essential technical and creative skills. The second year emphasizes applied learning and industry engagement, including a work experience placement, research in the humanities, and exploration of archives. Students also study magazine production, influencer culture, promotion and public relations, global popular cinema, and podcasting, further enhancing their ability to analyse and produce media content in professional contexts. In the final year, students focus on advanced, independent projects, including a dissertation that develops research and analytical skills, and participation in the Humanities Showcase, which highlights collaborative and creative work. Additional modules allow students to produce video shorts for music, advertising, and short films while exploring specialised areas such as fantasy, horror, and cult cinema. Throughout the program, students integrate theoretical understanding with hands-on practice, building a strong creative portfolio and industry-ready skills. By the end of the degree, graduates are well-prepared for careers in film, television, digital media, marketing, content creation, and related fields, or for further academic study, equipped with both technical expertise and critical insight.
