COURSE CURRICULUM

The History BA(Hons) degree at Huddersfield provides students with a comprehensive foundation in historical study while developing practical and analytical skills essential for a career in the field. In the first year, students explore topics such as Twentieth Century Britain and medieval and early modern sources, alongside modules in critical thinking and professional writing, which build the ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate historical information effectively. The second year introduces opportunities for work experience placements, allowing students to connect classroom learning with real-world applications, while modules in researching the humanities and investigating archives develop skills in handling original sources, documents, and artefacts. In the final year, students undertake an independent dissertation, enabling them to pursue a topic of personal interest in depth, supported by research methods and critical inquiry, and participate in the Humanities Showcase, which provides a platform to present their work to peers and the wider academic community. Throughout the course, students develop key transferable skills in research, analysis, communication, and problem-solving, gaining confidence in critical thinking and scholarly writing. By the end of the program, graduates are equipped with both practical experience and theoretical understanding, preparing them for careers in education, heritage, media, publishing, public history, or further postgraduate study.
