COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design BA(Hons) program at Huddersfield is structured to develop both creative and professional skills across three years. In the first year, students focus on the fundamentals of design, learning the essential principles of design theory and exploring the design process through hands-on studio practice. They engage in projects that help them understand the relationship between concept, production, and visual communication. The second year builds on this foundation, allowing students to develop more complex design work through intermediate studio practice and production projects, while exploring personal creative identities and refining their design approach. This year emphasizes experimentation, technical development, and the ability to articulate design decisions effectively. In the final year, students undertake advanced studio practice and contextual design research, producing professional-level work that demonstrates their creative vision and technical proficiency. Theory is integrated with practice, enabling students to critically evaluate their work and the broader design landscape, ensuring a well-rounded understanding of contemporary graphic design. By the end of the course, graduates have developed a strong, distinctive portfolio, practical expertise, and the professional confidence to pursue careers in graphic design, branding, advertising, digital media, and other creative industries.
