COURSE CURRICULUM

The Graphic Design with Animation BA(Hons) course at Huddersfield is structured to progressively develop students’ creative, technical, and professional skills across three years. In Year 1, students build a solid foundation through modules such as Design Process and Production 1, Design Studio 1, and Design Theory Fundamentals, which introduce core principles of visual communication, studio practice, and the theoretical frameworks that underpin contemporary design. Year 2 allows students to expand and refine their skills, with modules including Intermediate Studio Practice, Process and Production, and Design Identities, providing opportunities to experiment with both traditional and digital media while exploring how design interacts with audiences and cultural contexts. Students also begin to develop a professional portfolio and engage in practical project work, preparing them for industry engagement. In Year 3, the focus shifts to advanced practice and research with modules such as Advanced Studio Practice, Contextual Design Research, and Theory as Practice 3. Here, students consolidate their creative and technical abilities, produce more sophisticated projects, and explore critical and contextual approaches to design. By the end of the course, graduates have developed a comprehensive skill set, including animation, graphic design, and professional awareness, enabling them to enter diverse roles in the creative industries with confidence and a strong portfolio.
