COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Development (Design) BA(Hons) course at Huddersfield equips students with the skills to create engaging and innovative gameplay experiences across a variety of game types. In the first year, students build a solid foundation in game design through modules such as Concept Development 1, Games Team Project 1, 3D Games Asset Development, Games Prototyping 1, 3D Character Development, and Your Game Development Journey. These modules introduce students to core principles of game design, character and environment creation, collaborative team working, and practical prototyping, providing hands-on experience in developing playable concepts. In the second year, the course focuses on advancing design skills and understanding complex gameplay systems. Students take part in Games Design and Development 2, Team Project (Games), Games Design and Innovation, and Games Analysis and Design, enabling them to critically evaluate games, explore player motivations, develop design documentation, and innovate within existing frameworks. In the final year, students specialise in their chosen areas, completing an Individual Project, Team Project (Games), and Concept Development 3. These modules emphasise independent creative development, advanced design thinking, and professional-level project completion. Throughout the degree, students engage with real-world game development practices, preparing them for careers in roles such as game designer, lead designer, software engineer, environment artist, and technical artist, while building a professional portfolio that demonstrates their creativity, analytical skills, and practical expertise in the games industry.
