COURSE CURRICULUM

The Games Development (Art) BA(Hons) course at Huddersfield provides students with the skills and knowledge to create compelling visual content for games, focusing on both 2D and 3D art. In the first year, students begin with foundational modules such as concept development, 3D games asset creation, character development, and games prototyping, alongside collaborative team projects that introduce them to practical game production workflows. These modules establish a strong understanding of game art principles while allowing students to explore their creative abilities. In the second year, the curriculum progresses to more advanced areas including 3D environment and hard surface production, digital sculpture, character creation, visual design for games, and further team-based projects. These experiences deepen technical proficiency, foster collaboration, and prepare students to manage increasingly complex creative tasks. In the final year, students undertake individual and team projects, focusing on advanced visual design, sophisticated 3D production techniques, and finalizing portfolios that reflect their creative identity and technical skills. Throughout the course, students learn to balance artistic vision with practical production requirements, producing work that is both visually impressive and technically sound. By graduation, students are equipped to enter the games industry in roles such as environment artist, character artist, technical artist, or visual effects designer, ready to contribute to professional game development.
