COURSE CURRICULUM

The Fine Art BA(Hons) program at Huddersfield is structured to provide a progressive, immersive experience in creative practice and critical thinking over three years. In the first year, students focus on foundational skills through Studio Practice 1 and 2, where they explore a variety of media, techniques, and processes, while also engaging with Introduction to Critical Languages to develop analytical and reflective skills that support their artistic practice. The second year builds on this foundation, with Studio Practice 3 and 4 allowing students to expand their technical expertise, experiment with new approaches, and deepen their creative exploration. Expanded Critical Languages broadens theoretical understanding, while Professional Practice prepares students for the expectations and realities of working in creative industries, encouraging real-world application of skills. In the final year, students undertake Research and Development for Fine Art and Illustration, where they investigate concepts, develop personal projects, and refine their creative direction. The Final Major Project serves as a capstone experience, synthesizing technical skills, creative vision, and conceptual understanding into a cohesive body of work. Applied Critical Languages complements this by enabling critical reflection and articulation of ideas. Across the three years, students gain the practical, analytical, and professional skills necessary to develop a distinctive creative identity and prepare for careers in fine art, illustration, or related fields.
