COURSE CURRICULUM

The Filmmaking BA(Hons) course at Huddersfield provides students with a comprehensive and practical education in all aspects of film production, combining creative experimentation with technical expertise. In the first year, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Collaborative Cinema, Postproduction Craft, and Filmmaking 1 and 2, alongside exploring theoretical frameworks in Introduction to Critical Languages. This prepares students to think critically about film and media while gaining hands-on experience in production. In the second year, the focus shifts to more specialized and ambitious projects, including Developing Formats and programs for Television, Nonfiction and Fiction Film Projects, and Experimental Lab. Students also explore Moving Image Specialisms and Global Popular Cinema, enabling them to refine their creative style, develop storytelling skills, and gain an understanding of contemporary trends and techniques in film and television. The final year emphasizes professional practice and portfolio development, with modules such as Professional Practices, Final Major Filmmaking, and Sound for Filmmaking, equipping students with the technical, creative, and industry knowledge necessary for a successful career. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to experiment, collaborate, and produce work that demonstrates their individual vision, preparing them for careers in film production, media, post-production, or further study in creative and cinematic fields.
