COURSE CURRICULUM

The Film Studies and English Literature BA(Hons) degree at Huddersfield offers an interdisciplinary approach, combining the study of literature with film analysis and production. In the first year, students build foundational skills in critical thinking, English literature, the history of English, and professional writing, while gaining practical experience in video and audio production. This combination of academic and creative skills prepares students to engage with both literary and cinematic texts critically and creatively. In the second year, students expand their knowledge through modules such as global popular cinema, research in the humanities, and investigating archival materials, while also participating in work experience placements to gain practical insight into industry practice. The final year allows students to consolidate their learning through a dissertation and a humanities showcase, providing opportunities to undertake in-depth research and present their work, alongside exploring specialized topics such as fantasy, horror, and cult film. Throughout the course, students develop analytical, research, and communication skills alongside creative and technical expertise, enabling them to adapt literary texts for the screen, produce media content, and critically evaluate cultural works. Graduates leave with a professional portfolio, transferable skills, and the versatility to pursue careers in media, publishing, editing, film production, or further postgraduate study.
